Iranian director, screenwriter, and producer Mohammad Rasoulof’s first feature The Twilight (2002) was named Best Film at the Fajr Film Festival. He then directed Iron Island (2005), which was selected at the Directors’ Fortnight. His next films won awards in Un Certain Regard at Cannes: Best Director for Goodbye (2011), the FIPRESCI Prize for Manuscripts Don't Burn (2013), and the Prix Un Certain Regard for A Man of Integrity (2017). There Is No Evil (2020) won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale. His latest film, The Seed of the Sacred Fig (2024), won the Special Jury Prize as well as the Fipresci prize at the Festival de Cannes, and was selected as Germany’s entry for the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature category.
Iman, an investigating judge in the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, grapples with mistrust and paranoia as nationwide political protests intensify—and his gun mysteriously disappears. Suspecting his wife Najmeh and his daughters Rezvan and Sana are involved, Iman imposes drastic measures at home, causing tensions to rise. Step by step, social norms and the rules of family life are suspended.
