Palestinian-Danish director Mahdi Fleifel graduated from the NFTS in the United Kingdom. A World Not Ours , his first feature-length documentary, premiered in 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival and won around thirty awards at the Berlinale, CPH:DOX, DOC:NYC, and the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival. He took part in the Cinéfondation at Cannes in 2013, and directed the short films A Man Returned, winner in 2016 of a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and nominated for a European Film Award; A Drowning Man, which premiered at the Festival de Cannes and was nominated for a BAFTA; and I Signed the Petition, named Best Short Documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and nominated for a European Film Award.
Two Palestinian friends, Chatila and Reda, are saving up to pay for fake passports to get out of Athens. But, when Reda loses their hard-earned cash to his dangerous drug addiction, Chatila hatches an extreme plan, which involves the pair posing as smugglers and taking hostages in an effort to escape from their hopeless environment before it is too late.
