Asmae El Moudir was born in Salé, Morocco, in 1990. A film director, screenwriter, and producer, she studied at La Fémis in Paris, holds a master's degree in production from the Superior Institute of Information and Communication in Rabat and a bachelor's degree in documentary cinema from the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University in Tetouan, and is a graduate of the Moroccan Film Academy in film studies (ISCA). She has directed documentaries for SNRT, Al Jazeera Documentary, BBC, and Al Araby TV. After making a number of short films, she directed The Postcard (2020), which was selected for the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam and the Marrakech International Film Festival, and then The Mother of All Lies (2023), which won the Directing Prize in Un Certain Regard section of the Festival de Cannes.
