Una Gunjak was born and raised in Sarajevo. Her first short film, The Chicken, had its premiere in La Semaine de la Critique at the Festival de Cannes in 2014 and won the European Film Award for Best Short Film. Her next short, Salamat from Germany, was made through the Lebanon Factory initiative and premiered at the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes in 2017. Excursion (2023), her first feature film, was made with the support of Eurimages, Aide au Développement at Cinemed, the Hubert Bals Script and Project Development Fund, and the Sørfond — Norwegian South Film Fund.
