Andrea Arnold studied directing at the AFI Conservatory in Los Angeles. After making several short films, she won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for Wasp (2003). Red Road (2006), her first feature-length film, won the Jury Prize at the Festival de Cannes and the BAFTA Carl Foreman Award. Her second feature, Fish Tank (2009), starring Michael Fassbender and Katie Jarvis, won the Jury Prize at Cannes, as well as the BAFTA for Best British Film. Her third film, Wuthering Heights (2011), an adaptation of the Emily Brontë novel, had its premiere in competition at the Venice International Film Festival. Her fourth, American Honey 2016), starring Sasha Lane and Shia LaBeouf, was shot in the United States. It won Arnold a third Jury Prize at Cannes.
Twelve-year-old Bailey lives with her single dad Bug and her brother in a squat in northern Kent. Bug doesn’t have much time for his kids, and Bailey, who is approaching puberty, seeks attention and adventure elsewhere.
