Romania in the late 1970s. Zahra and Maria form a close bond while studying medicine at university in Bucharest. But when Zahra senses the winds of change in her homeland of Iran, she leaves the university and departs for Tehran, full of revolutionary aspirations. Separated by both physical distance and the precariousness of two political regimes on the verge of collapse, the friends correspond and report on their daily lives via letters. Created entirely from archival footage and tied together by a colourful soundtrack, Between Revolutions is an intimate, bittersweet memoir of people’s struggle for a brighter future and of two women’s unfailing friendship.
