Celebrated worldwide as one of Denmark's most significant directors, Thomas Vinterberg made his feature debut with The Biggest Heroes (1996) after graduating from the National Film School of Denmark. He had his international breakthrough with The Celebration (1998) – the first Dogme 95 film – which received several international awards, including the Jury Prize at the Festival de Cannes. Vinterberg won worldwide acclaim for the Academy and Golden Globe Award-nominated drama The Hunt (2013), for which Mads Mikkelsen won the Best Actor Award at Cannes. Vinterberg then directed The Commune (2016); Kursk (2019), about the Russian submarine tragedy that occurred in 2000; and Another Round (2020), which won the Academy and César Awards for Best International Film.
