Payal Kapadia is a Mumbai-based filmmaker. She studied film directing at the Film and Television Institute of India. Her short films Afternoon Clouds (2015) and And What Is the Summer Saying (2018) premiered respectively at the Cinéfondation at the Festival de Cannes and the Berlin International Film Festival. A Night of Knowing Nothing (2021), her first feature-length film, had its premiere in the Director's Fortnight at Cannes, where it won the Œil d’Or for Best Documentary. Her most recent film, All We Imagine as Light, premiered at Cannes, where it was awarded the Grand Prix.
In Mumbai, Nurse Prabha’s routine is disturbed when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a spot in the city to be intimate with her boyfriend. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest.
