Gints Zilbalodis is a Latvian filmmaker and animator. His debut feature-length film, Away (2019), which he made entirely by himself, won the Best Feature Film Contrechamp Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. It has been selected for more than ninety festivals and sold in eighteen territories. Zilbalodis’s fascination for filmmaking began at an early age when he watched classic films and made short films. Prior to Away, he made seven short films in various mediums, including hand-drawn animation, 3D animation, and live action, often mixing their characteristic aesthetics. Flow, his second feature-length animated film, has its premiere in the Un Certain Regard section at the Festival de Cannes.
A cat wakes up in a flooded world where all human life seems to have disappeared. He finds refuge on a boat with a group of other animals but getting along with them proves an even greater challenge than conquering his fear of water. From now on, the creatures will have to learn to overcome their differences and adapt to the new world in which they find themselves.
