After graduating from studies in film at La Fémis, Sylvie Ballyot explored a variety of cinematographic forms: diaries, creative documentaries, and short and medium-length fiction films. Her most recent film, Green Line, is the culmination of this process of exploration, both in its formal structure as well as in its theme and territory: the Middle East, which she has tackled in previous works. With Green Line, Ballyot invents her own cinematic language, allying realism with dreamlike imagery, fiction with documentary. She pursues her exploration of the frontier between the individual and the community, between the intimate and the collective.
Fida grew up in war torn Beirut in the 1980s, immersed in the “red hell” her grandmother used to tell her about. The trivialization of death made Fida doubt the value of life, as well as the meaning of that interminable war that was so similar to so many others. Using miniature settings and figurines, she meets the militiamen and compares her childhood vision with theirs.
