Director's Biography

Saïd Hamich Benlarbi is a French-Moroccan screenwriter, director, and producer, a La Fémis graduate, and a Lagardère Foundation laureate. He has collaborated with filmmakers including Nabil Ayouch, Yasmine Benkiran, Faouzi Bensaïdi, Leyla Bouzid, Philippe Faucon, and Kamal Lazraq. His first film, Return to Bollene (2017), was nominated for the Louis Delluc Prize for Best First Film. In 2022, his César-nominated short film Le Départ was selected for the Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur, the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, and the Outdoor Short Film Festival of Grenoble, among others. The film has won about twenty awards. Across the Sea is his second feature-length film.

In the presence of the film crew

Twenty-seven-year-old Nour has immigrated illegally to Marseille. With his friends, he lives a marginal and festive existence. On meeting Serge, a charismatic and unpredictable police officer, and his wife Noémie, however, Nour’s life is turned upside down. From 1990 to 2000, Nour loves, grows up, and clings to his dreams.
