Lisandro Alonso was born in Buenos Aires in 1975 and studied at the Universidad del Cine. After co-directing his first short film, Dos en la Vereda (1995), he worked as an assistant director and sound designer until 2000. His first feature-length film, La Libertad (2001), had its premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the Festival de Cannes. After creating his own production company 4L, Alonso returned to Cannes in 2004 with Los Muertos, which premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight. He completed his trilogy with Fantasma (2006). In 2008, the more fictional Liverpool followed a young sailor looking for his mother in Tierra del Fuego. Jauja (2014), set in nineteenth-century Denmark and Argentina, won the FIPRESCI Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Eureka (2023) also had its premiere in Cannes.
Tired of being a police officer on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Alaina stops answering her radio. Her niece, Sadie, waits for her, to no avail. With the help of her grandfather, Sadie begins a journey to South America, flying through time and space. Everything seems different when she hears the dreams of others, the Indigenous people living in the forest. Birds don’t talk to humans — and yet, if only we could understand them, they would surely have truths to tell.
