Juan Sebastián Quebrada studied directing at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires and completed a postgraduate degree in editing at the ESCAC in Barcelona. In 2015, his graduation project Días extraños had its premiere at the Buenos Aires Festival of Independent Cinema and travelled to more than twenty other festivals. In 2016, La Casa del árbol, his first short film, had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, was selected for more than thirty-five festivals, and won the Best Director award at Bogoshorts. The Other Son is his first feature-length film.
Federico and his brother Simon live their teenage years to the fullest until the day Simon falls to his death from a balcony during a party. While his family falls to pieces before his eyes, Federico tries to live a normal life during his final weeks of school. Unable to mourn, he starts to grow closer to his dead brother’s girlfriend and seems to find comfort in her.
