Born in Casablanca in 1984, Kamal Lazraq graduated from the directing department of La Fémis in 2011 . The same year, his graduation short film Drari won the 2nd Cinéfondation Prize at the Festival de Cannes and the Grand Prix for Best Short Film at the Entrevues Belfort International Film Festival. He directed the short The Man with the Dog (Moul Lkelb, 2013), which won numerous awards at international festivals. Hounds, for which he is a 2021 laureate of the Gan Foundation for Cinema, is his first feature film and won the Jury’s Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Festival de Cannes in 2023.
